UFC Fortaleza live blog: Jose Aldo vs. Renato Moicano

This is the UFC Fortaleza live blog for Jose Aldo vs. Renato Moicano, a featherweight bout at Saturday’s UFC event at Centro de Formacao Olimpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil.

Aldo, a two-time UFC featherweight champion who is coming off of a first-round knockout win over Jeremy Stephens, faces Moicano, who is 5-1 in the UFC, in the co-main event.

Round 1: The third man in the cage for this fight is Jerin Valel. Moicano probing with a front kick and a jab, Aldo yet to throw a strike in the first minute. Glancing right hand lands for Moicano, he’s looking fast. Moicano with a pair of jabs, Aldo answers with a right of his own. Leg kick for Aldo. Moicano with an outside leg kick. Aldo whiffs on a leg kick and Moicano briefly attempts to rush in before backing off. Aldo looks for a counter and connects with a punch to Moicano’s body. He tags Moicano with a left to the body again. Moicano having success with his jab. He’s also countering well. Aldo staying patient, not throwing much. Round ends with a series of feints, it’s a close one.

Round 2: Aldo comes out a little more active pumping a jab, but Moicano is standing in there with him He clips Aldo with a leg kick. Aldo starting to open up big time. He cracks Moicano with a shot to the body and then flurries, landing with hooks up top. Moicano just turtling up and backing up. Aldo is relentless with punches. Referee has to step in to wave this one off. Huge TKO win for Aldo.
