Bellator 216 results: Yaroslav Amosov dominates Erick Silva, remains undefeated

For about a half a round or so, there, it looked like undefeated Yaroslav Amosov might have finally met his match.

Veteran Erick Silva, who was making his Bellator MMA debut, looked confident in the opening round of their main-card welterweight matchup at Bellator 216, finding a home with big overhand rights that kept his foe off-balance.

But every fighter on their way up has a gut-check where they have to demonstrate their ability to adjust, and that Amosov did. The 25-year old Ukranian implemented his grappling and dominated the rest of the way, as he cruised to a unanimous decision. The judges’ scores at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. were 29-27 and a pair of 29-28s.

Silva appeared to be in control as he looked strong in the standup early in the opening round, repeatedly landing overhand rights, as well as a left hook which opened a cut around Amosov’s left eye. But once Amosov closed the distance and initiated the clinch, he found Silva didn’t have much of an answer.

That became painfully clear in the second round, as the fighter nicknamed “Dynamo” scored a takedown and overwhelmed Silva on the ground for the rest of the round in a borderline 10-8 round. Amosov didn’t come close to a finish, but landed significant offense and at one point when Silva managed to work to his feet, he was immediately placed back on the mat by an impressive Amosov slam.

In the third, it took a bit longer for Amosov to take things to the mat, but Silva didn’t have much left in the tank, and once Amosov got him there, it was all academic from there.

With his fourth career decision win, Amosov is now 2-0 in Bellator. Silva (20-10, 1 NC) has now dropped three of his past four fights.
