Vanessa Porto walked out of Invicta FC 34 with a newly won flyweight title and luckily for her, both of her eyes mostly intact.
The Brazilian veteran became a champion at 125 pounds on Friday after winning a decision over Pearl Gonzalez. Their main event bout ended abruptly in the middle of the fourth round after Gonzalez’s fingers went deep into an advancing Porto’s left eye, but the bout had gone on long enough for the judges to render a verdict that went Porto’s way.
Porto would later get on social media and provide an image of her damaged eye, which can be seen below:
MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz says Porto’s instagram message says “That’s one hell of an eye poke. My God! With the belt in my hand.”
The extent of the damage to Porto’s eye is not known yet, but hopefully the newly-crowned champion isn’t out of action for too long.
