Alistair Overeem suffered one of the ugliest—superficially speaking—losses of his career on Saturday, but was already taking a lighthearted perspective on it shortly after.
At the end of his five-round fight with Jairzinho Rozenstruik in the main event of UFC on ESPN 7 on Saturday, it looked as though Overeem was on his way to winning a unanimous decision; instead, with seconds remaining in the final round, the 39-year-old absorbed a hard punch to the mouth from Rozenstruik that split his lip wide open, resulting in the 14th knockout loss of Overeem’s career.
The former Strikeforce heavyweight champion took to Twitter to provide an update on his injury:
Getting stitched up. Lip not to sexy at the moment.. a little bit a fast stoppage if u ask me - but hope u guys enjoyed the fight

“Getting stitched up,” Overeem wrote. “Lip not too sexy at the moment... a little bit of a fast stoppage if you ask me - but hope you guys enjoyed the fight.”
The loss snapped a two-fight winning streak for Overeem, who saw his pro MMA record fall to 45-18 (1 NC).
Overeem underwent plastic surgery to fix his lip Saturday evening, according to a report from ESPN citing Overeem’s team.
