Combate Americas live blog: Tito Ortiz vs. Alberto El Patron

This is the Combate Americas live blog for Tito Ortiz vs. Alberto “El Patron” Del Rio, a 210-pound catchweight bout at Saturday’s event at Payne Arena in McAllen, Texas.

Tito Ortiz, a former UFC light heavyweight champion who has won four of his last five fights, faces Alberto “El Patron,” a professional wrestling star who is competing in MMA for the first time since February 2010, in the main event.

Round 1: El Patron fires off a couple of jabs and Ortiz immediately drives in for a body lock. It’s Ortiz on top in side control after the ensuing scramble. He is staying heavy on El Patron and threatens with a guillotine as the two stand. El Patron slips out, but Ortiz is all over him. El Patron gets low and Ortiz sprawls, he’s delivering punches to the body as El Patron holds onto his leg. Ortiz just powers through and gets El Patron stuck against the cage, he’s really working him over on the ground. Back take by Ortiz and he searches for a rear-naked choke. El Patron can only defend for so long and he taps.
