Chan Sung Jung asked for a shot at newly crowned UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski after stopping Frankie Edgar in the main event of UFC Busan in South Korea, but he will have to wait a little longer before getting back in the cage.
“The Korean Zombie” announced at the post-fight press conference on Saturday that he will need eye surgery to fix an issue he has been dealing with for a while.
“Those that follow me on Instagram might know, but currently I have an eye condition that makes me see double,” Jung told the media in South Korea. “Right now, everyone in this room, I’m seeing double of everything. I have double vision. It’s not a huge, major surgery, but is still gonna take about a couple, three months to recover.”
Jung still managed to score a devastating victory against Edgar, knocking him out in less than four minutes at the Sajik Arena. Asked how he was able to perform like that with an eye condition, the featherweight talent said “we humans adjust to things.”
The 32-year-old fighter called the surgery a “priority” right now, and targets a return to the Octagon around May or June.
Volkanovski, who won the UFC belt earlier this month in Las Vegas, also had surgery to fix a fractured hand days after his win over Max Holloway.
