Alexander Volkanovski will go under the knife to fix a broken left hand, an injury he sustained during his five-round decision victory over then-featherweight champion Max Holloway at UFC 245.
Volkanovski, who won on all scorecards last Saturday in Las Vegas to capture the 145-pound championship, announced the injury on his Instagram Thursday. He’s expected to have surgery Friday.
“I don’t think the operation is too crazy but there’s a couple of breaks in there, so I’m gonna have to get that sorted,” Volkanovski said in the video.

Volkanovski (21-1) closed a perfect year in 2019 with a win over “Blessed” Holloway in Las Vegas just seven months after handing Jose Aldo a decision defeat in Rio de Janeiro. The Australian featherweight has now won 18 straight fights, eight under the UFC banner.
