The thrilling, technical fight between Zabit Magomedsharipov and Calvin Kattar topped the list of bonuses handed out at UFC Moscow. Both men were given a $50,000 “Fight of the Night” award for their three-round battle, officials announced afterwards.
Magomedsharipov took home a unanimous decision after three rounds, earning his sixth straight UFC win. The Dagestan native called for a fight with the winner of a UFC 245 title bout between champ Max Holloway and Alex Volkanovski.
Additionally, “Performance of the Night” bonuses went to Magomed Ankalaev, David Zawada, who finished their opponents on the preliminary-card portion of Saturday’s event at CSKA Arena in Moscow. The fighters each earned an additional $50,000.
Ankalaev stunned Dalcha Lungiambula with a front kick to the face, echoing former champs Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida, who also ended fights with the same move. It was Ankalaev’s third straight octagon win.
Zawada, meanwhile, pulled off an upset when he submitted Abubakar Nurmagomedov with a triangle choke in the first round. Nurmagomedov, who made his octagon debut, is the cousin of UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov. Afterward, UFC star Conor McGregor took to Twitter to mock the UFC welterweight’s loss.
