The biggest fight week of Jorge Masvidal’s life couldn’t have gone much better.
With A-list movie star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on-hand for the festivities and boxing legend Roberto Duran offering his support, the proud Miami native marched into Madison Square Garden on Saturday with an extra charge. He delivered inside the Octagon, pummeling Nate Diaz for three rounds en route to a doctor stoppage, and the specially-made “BMF” belt was wrapped around his waist.
In the reported finale of his “The Diaries of a Street Fighter” web series, Masvidal shares a detailed look at the days leading up to UFC 244, including his friendship with Johnson, a University of Miami alumnus, and a pep talk from Duran.
“There’s no way I’m losing in front of you,” Masvidal tells Duran.
“But I do need to tell you one thing – come in close,” Duran said. “He’s going to come after you, he wants to kill you! Don’t stand in front of him, or he will get you. And you know I’ve studied him a lot. When he comes close, bam! You can’t come near me!”
