Al Iaquinta’s latest trip to Australia was a rough one.
While Iaquinta was enthusiastic about competing in “The Land Down Under” for the second time in his career, the 32-year-old lightweight suffered a unanimous decision loss to Dan Hooker in Saturday’s UFC 243 co-main event. Worse, Iaquinta could be facing a long layoff.
Iaquinta has been handed a provisional 180-day suspension by the Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Board of Victoria, which regulated this past Saturday’s pay-per-view at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. Medical suspensions were provided to MMAFighting by official ABC records keeper mixedmartialarts.com.
Iaquinta require X-rays on the tibula and fibula of his left leg as well as his foot. The suspension can be lifted pending clearance from a physician.
No other fighters on the card are expected to miss a significant amount of time for medical reasons, including headliners Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker.
