Two-time Olympic gold medalist Kayla Harrison inks long-term extension with PFL

Kayla Harrison isn’t going anywhere but back to the Professional Fighters League after inking a new long-term extension with the promotion ahead of her fight on Friday.

PFL officials confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Thursday following an initial report from ESPN. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist in judo has long been considered a prized acquisition for the PFL, and with a perfect 5-0 record including four stoppages due to strikes or submission, she’s quickly become one of the faces of the organization.

Harrison competes this Friday at PFL 7 against Genah Fabian in the semifinals of the ongoing lightweight playoffs where the eventual winner will cash in with a $1 million grand prize.

A former U.S. Olympic teammate of Ronda Rousey, Harrison was skeptical about transitioning to mixed martial arts following her second gold medal win in the Olympics but she eventually made the decision to try out the sport.

Since that time, Harrison has run roughshod over her competition with three first-round finishes out of her five professional fights.

Harrison previously told MMA Fighting how happy she was being on the PFL roster and that she had no plans to explore signing with another organization in the near future.

“I’m really happy with the PFL,” Harrison said prior to Thursday’s signing. “They’ve treated me well. They’ve put us on an even playing field when it comes to our pay scale and just the overall treatment that I’ve received is awesome. I think the format has been super exciting for me.”
