A former Invicta FC champion and a one-time UFC title challenger will face off in Philadelphia.
Michelle Waterson will fight Karolina Kowalkiewicz in a strawweight contest at the UFC’s recently announced March 30 show at Wells Fargo Center. ESPN was the first to report the bout and Watson and Kowalkiewicz confirmed the bout via social media.
Waterson, who won the Invicta atomweight championship in 2013, has hovered near the top of the UFC rankings with a 4-2 record for the promotion and notable wins over Felice Herrig, Cortney Casey, and Paige VanZant. However, she has yet to earn a shot at UFC gold. “The Karate Hottie” is 16-6 overall in her career.
Kowalkiewicz (12-3) has competed in a UFC title bout, going five rounds in a losing effort against Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 205 in November 2016. She has gone 2-2 since, sandwiching decision wins over Felice Herrig and Jodie Esquibel with a submission loss to Claudia Gadelha and a knockout loss to Jessica Andrade.
UFC Philadelphia will air live on ESPN.
