Combate Americas is returning to Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif., on Friday, Feb. 22 with with another Mexico vs. USA showcase.
In the night’s main event, Pablo Sabori squares off against Anthony Avila in a 150-pound catchweight contest.
Sabori (9-5) was last seen earning an alternate spot in last year’s Copa Combate tournament with a decision win over Michael Irizarry in December. Prior to that, all eight of his professional victories have ended via knockout or submission. Avila (17-5) is currently looking to improve on his four fight win streak. In his most recent bout, Avila scored a second-round TKO of Marcello Cassero in November.
In addition, fans will witness the return of former Bellator MMA strawweight champion Zoila Frausto as she faces fellow veteran Jaimee Nievera.
Frausto (13-5), also a former RFA title challenger, has not competed in MMA since her decision win over Corina Herrera in 2016. Since then, “The Warrior Princess” has elected to compete in kickboxing, where she holds a perfect 4-0 record.
Frausto holds notable victories over former WSOF champion Jessica Aguilar, former Invicta FC champion turned UFC title challenger Jessica Penne and Japanese MMA icon Megumi Fujii.
Her opponent Nievera (7-4) previously finished Frausto’s sister, Stephanie Frausto, during their scrap in 2016. Since then, “Queenie” has compiled a record of 3-3, with her most recent fight being a second-round TKO loss to current UFC flyweight Antonina Shevchenko on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series in June.
Also appearing on the card is a super lightweight scrap between Daniel Rodriguez (7-1) and Evan Solorio (4-2), a strawweight fight between Sheila Padilla (3-2) and Charisa Sigala (4-0), a bantamweight bout between Hector Fajardo (1-0) and Jose Avalos (3-1) of Parlier, Calif., as well as a featherweight contest between Emilio Horta (1-1) and Steven Bollinger (0-0).
