UFC 228 live blog: Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Brandon Davis

Zabit Magomedsharipov faces off with Brandon Davis ahead of their featherweight bout at UFC 228 on Saturday at the American Airlines Center in Dallas

This is the UFC 228 live blog for Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Brandon Davis, a featherweight bout at Saturday’s UFC event at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Magomedsharipov, who has won 11 straight bouts, faces Davis, who has lost two of his last three fights, on the main card.

Round 1: Jacob Montalvo the third man in the cage for this fight. Davis chipping away with leg kicks as Magomedsharipov switches stances. Body kick by Davis. Magomedsharipov scores with a jab, but his lead leg is taking damage from Davis’s kicks. Davis blocks a hopping trip attempt. Magomedsharipov with some impressive side-to-side movement, but Davis is walking him down. Davis walks into a solid counter-punch. Lunging right by Magomedsharipov connects, but Davis is right there with an uppercut. Jumping switch kick to the body by Magomedsharipov. He ducks a charging Davis and goes for a body lock. Davis working to keep his balance, but he gets slammed. Davis quickly back up to his feet against the cage. Magomedsharipov attempts a capoeira kick.

MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 Davis.

Round 2: Magomedsharipov goes for the body lock early in round two and he gets a takedown with plenty of time to work. Davis active on the bottom and he gets up only to be dragged down again with Magomedsharipov staying heavy on his back. Davis stands up again, but Magomedsharipov is maintaining the rear body lock. Another takedown by Magomedsharipov. He’s finally able to start throwing big punches from behind, but Davis is again able to stand and he goes for a body lock of his own before they separate. Davis back to the leg kicks. Magomedsharipov opens up with the striking a little, then gets a takedown again. He’s in back control and works to get his hooks in. Rear-naked choke attempt by Magomedsharipov, Davis keeps him from getting under the chin, so Magomedsharipov soften hims up with some punches. In a scramble, Magomesharipov is able to snag a leg and secures a Suloev stretch. Davis taps and that’s the second submission by that technique tonight.
