Dana White Contender Series had its first special season taped in August in Las Vegas, and the third and final episode of the inaugural season aired Friday night in Brazil.
(Contender Series Brazil will be aired on UFC Fight Pass at a later date, so this post contains spoilers.)
In a card headlined by Thiago Moises with an impressive finish, Dana White ended up signing four of the five winners. In total, the UFC has signed 11 of the 15 winners throughout the first season of the Brazilian version of Dana White’s Contender Series.
Thiago Moises (11-2), one of the most experienced talents in the program in terms of international fights, made quick work of Gleidson Cutis (7-4). The former RFA lightweight champion was signed by the UFC after finishing his opponent in the opening round, his seventh stoppage victory in MMA.
Another fighter that didn’t need to go three rounds to secure a UFC contract was light heavyweight Vinicius Alves (9-1), who submitted John Allan (12-5) in the second round. The SFL veteran was dominated in the first round, but secured the triangle choke finish to win in the second round.
One-time Rizin veteran Allan Nascimento (17-5), who trains alongside the likes of Thomas Almeida and Charles Oliveira in Sao Paulo, was defeated via split decision by rising flyweight sensation Raulian Paiva (18-1). Paiva improved his winning streak to 12 and was offered a UFC contract by Dana White.
Four female bantamweights competed in this final episode, but only one was signed by the company.
Luana Carolina improved to 5-1 in MMA with a decision victory over previously unbeaten Mabelly Lima (7-1) and was signed by the UFC. Gisele Moreira (8-2) scored an unanimous decision win over Dayana Silva (7-4), but wasn’t offered a UFC deal.
In the first two episodes, the UFC has signed Johnny Walker (14-3), Marina Rodriguez (10-0), Taila Santos (15-0), Mayra Bueno (4-0), Augusto Sakai (11-1-1), Sarah Frota (9-0) and Rogerio Bontorin (14-1).
