This is the Bellator 206 live blog for Gegard Mousasi vs. Rory MacDonald, a middleweight championship bout at Saturday’s Bellator event at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif.
Mousasi, the reigning middleweight champion who has won seven straight fights, faces MacDonald, the Bellator welterweight champion who has gone 2-0 since joining the promotion last year, in the main event.

Round 1: Herb Dean on hand to oversee the main event. Both men looking for the jab early, it’s Mousasi who is finding more success, also mixing in low kicks. Straight right by Mousasi gets MacDonald’s attention. Jab by MacDonald lands, followed by an outside leg kick. Mousasi with the jab. Glancing overhand right by MacDonald, he takes a jab and then a 1-2 for his troubles. Quick hook to the body by MacDonald. Mousasi popping MacDonald with his jab. High kick by MacDonald is blocked. Right hand lands for Mousasi, then another jab. MacDonald struggling to get past that jab. Mousasi is punishing MacDonald with inside leg kicks from distance. Front kick lands for MacDonald at the end of the round.

Round 2: MacDonald fakes a takedown and scores with a short elbow. Mousasi goes back to piecing MacDonald up with the jab. Imanari roll by MacDonald, but Mousasi ends up on top and he scores with a few punches from top position before MacDonald can wrap him up. MacDonald’s nose is bleeding. He’s active from the bottom and controlling Mousasi’s posture, but Mousasi is content to throw short punches to the body. Mousasi gets free and lands a couple of elbows. Mousasi gets into full mount with plenty of time to work, MacDonald wrapping his arms around Mousasi’s waist. Elbows from the top by Mousasi and MacDonald can only ball up. He wants out and Dean calls for the stoppage.
