Livia Renata Souza wasted little time making an impression in her UFC debut.
Souza, the former Invicta strawweight champion, had the pleasure of making her promotional debut in her hometown Saturday night, and she needed just 1:21 to end up in the winner’s circle at UFC Sao Paulo.
Souza overwhelmed Alex Chambers and finished her with a guillotine choke in the Fight Pass opener for the fastest submission in UFC 115-pound history.
“We worked that submission a lot going from the half-guard to the sub and it worked out,” Souza said through an interpreter.
It was a textbook performance by Souza, as she swarmed Chambers, landed punch after punch after cornering her along the fence, and then deftly transitioned in to the winning choke soon after taking her to the ground.
“I tried to get her to lose herself on the feet,” Souza said. “I knew exactly where to go and I knew my transitions on the ground.”
With her eight career submission win, Souza improved to 12-1. It was her third consecutive victory. Chambers, the TUF 20 competitor from Australia, dropped to 5-5, 1-4 in the UFC.
