Canelo vs. GGG 2 results: Live updates of the undercard and main event

Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin will square off in the main event Saturday night in Las Vegas.

MMA Fighting has Canelo vs. GGG results live for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin fight card at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Main event

Canelo Alvarez def. Gennady Golovkin via majority decision (114-114, 115-113 x2)

Roman Gonzalez vs. Moises Fuentes

Round 1: Both fighters squaring off, sparsely trading jabs. Gonzalez starts to march forward, slipping some punches. Left hook to the body for Gonzalez. Fuentes answers with one but Gonzalez lands a glancing left hook over top. Gonzalez comfortably throwing out that jab now. Gonzalez turning up the volume and he has Fuentes briefly cornered, but they’re back to center.

Round 2: Fuentes with a good shot to the body, then a straight right. Fuentes keeping distance better, he’s finding success going to the body. Tehre’s a cut over Fuentes’s right eye and Gonzalez targets it with three good shots. He has Fuentes backed up against the ropes, Fuentes circles out. Body work by Gonzalez has Fuentes turtling up, he’s struggling to respond as Gonzalez goes back to the head. He’s taking his time and picking Fuentes apart, mixing it up high and low.

Round 3: Fuentes comes out firing again, he lands a good straight left, but Gonzalez avoids the follow-up shots. Fuentes with another couple of solid right hands, one to the head, one to the body. Gonzalez looking to counter, they trade left hooks. Right hand over the top scores for Fuentes. Gonzalez backing Fuentes up with the body work, he’s got Fuentes in the corner now. Tons of volume from Gonzalez, he’s favoring that left hook. Fuentes spins out momentarily only to be cornered again. 1-2-3 for Gonzalez lands, then another.

Round 4: Fuentes marches forward, but again is backed up once Gonzalez starts throwing counter-punches. Fuentes trying to go to the body, it’s Gonzalez who is doing more damage with the left hook. 1-2, 1-2 by Gonzalez with Fuentes against the ropes. Right hook lands on the head for Gonzalez. Gonzalez getting around Fuentes’s defense with hooks from both hands. Fuentes cannot get out of the corner. 1-2 by Fuentes lands, but Gonzalez responds with a five-punch combination. 1-2-1 for Gonzalez.

Round 5: Fuentes back up against the ropes and Gonzalez is just dominating with sheer volume. Gonzalez stalks Fuentes who is trying to circle out and he cracks him with a short right hook. Fuentes goes down immediately and this one is done.

David Lemieux vs. Gary O’Sullivan

Round 1: Lemiux approaching with the jab, O’Sullivan firing back with counters. Hard shots by Lemiux, but nothing major getting past O’Sullivan’s defenses. Left hook lands for Lemieux. Lemiux with the straight right to the body. 1-2 up top, O’Sullivan blocks, but he takes a left hook to the body. Crisp straight left by O’Sullivan knocks Lemieux back a few steps. O’Sullivan whiffs on a right hook and Lemieux lands a left hook right on the button. O’Sullivan drops to his knees. He’s struggling to stand, referee Russell Mora takes a good look in his eyes and waves it off. No complaint from O’Sullivan or his corner.

Jaime Munguia vs Brandon Cook

Round 1: The taller Munguia rifles off a few jobs before stepping back. Jab to the body for Munguia. Quick combo by Munguia, but his final shot lands a little low. A brief pause and they’re back at it. Good counter left hook to the body by Cook. Left hand lands for Munguia, he’s head hunting. Right hook scores. He goes to the body with a pair of hard shots and Cook clinches up. They’re separated and Munguia goes on the offense, firing away at Cook who is just trying to survive with about 10 seconds remaining. Another body shot from Munguia lands to close the round, might have been a bit low.

Round 2: Cook going to the body and he’s just bullying Munguia back against the ropes. He narrowly avoids a right uppercut and backs off. Munguia still head hunting and Cook is just staying out of harm’s way. Munguia throwing fastballs with that right hand and Cook has to keep ducking it. Munguia dodges a right hand and fires off a 1-2 to the body, Cook ties him up again. Short straight left connects square with Cook’s face, he clinches. Munguia again unloading in the corner in the closing seconds again and Cook defends well enough to make it to the third.

Round 3: Cook lands a trio of body shots, but Munguia absorbs them and clips him with a right hand over the top. A flurry drops Cook including a stiff left hook as Cook is stumbling. Count by the ref, but Cook is up. The action resumes and Munguia is all over Cook, who turtles up against the ropes. The power punches just keep going and the referee jumps in for the save before Cook takes any serious damage. Good stoppage.
