Halle Berry is stepping into the world of directing for the first time and she’s doing so with an MMA tale.
Deadline reported Tuesday that the Academy Award-winning actress is set to star and direct in Bruised, a “mixed martial arts action drama” in which she will play the role of Jackie (aka “Justice”), a former fighter who has fallen on hard times. According to the report, the plot will involve Berry’s character dealing with personal problems while attempting a comeback in the cage.
This marks the 52-year-old Berry’s directorial debut after starring in over 40 films.
Bruised will be produced by Basil Iwanyk, who Berry is currently working with on production of John Wick 3: Parabellum, and Linda Gottlieb. The fight choreographers from the John Wick franchise will also be taking part in the project.
Production for the film begins in March 2019.
