James Gallagher’s bantamweight debut did not go as planned.
On Friday night at Bellator 204 in Sioux Falls, S.D., Gallagher made his return to the cage after a 14-month layoff. Gallagher had designs on stopping Ricky Bandejas and then pursuing a fight with Darrion Caldwell. Unfortunately, for Gallagher, nobody told Bandejas.
Bandejas blew up Gallagher’s plans with a sharp right hand that dropped “the Strabanimal” midway through the first round. A stepping sidekick and some vicious follow-up punches later, Gallagher was out cold on the canvas and Bandejas had announced himself to the Bellator faithful.
