Patricio Freire will finally get to compete in Israel on Nov. 15, as he puts his featherweight belt on the line in the main event of Bellator’s return to Tel Aviv, Israel, against Emmanuel Sanchez. Sources confirmed the booking after a report by MMA Junkie.
“Pitbull” (27-4) was originally slated to headline Bellator 188 in Israel last November, but was forced out o the card with an injury. Back to action with a decision win over Daniel Weichel in July, the Brazilian looks to extend his winning streak to three.
Sanchez (17-3) earned a shot at the gold after winning four in a row since 2017, submitting Daniel Straus and Sam Sicilia after scoring wins over Marcos Galvao and Georgi Karakhanyan. “El Matador” is 9-2 under the Bellator banner.
“Last year I got injured and was out of the event,” Freire told MMA Fighting, “so when Bellator told me they would return to Israel and thought about doing this fight, I didn’t think twice. I want to put on a show for the Israeli crowd and MMA fans to pay you back this time.”
The event will mark Bellator’s third trip to Tel Aviv since it’s debut in Nov. 2016.
