The UFC 226 featured Fight Pass prelim bout between Dan Hooker and Gilbert Burns was one fans in the know knew was must-watch, as the bout promised fireworks.

And it didn’t take much time for the bout to deliver. Hooker (17-7) won a fast-paced, action packed lightweight matchup on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, scoring a knockout at the 2:28 mark of the opening round.

The victory was the fourth in a row for the New Zealander, all by way of finish.

Burns (14-3), who had won three of his past four heading into the fight, landed the bout’s first big blow with a loaded-up overhand right. But Burns began to telegraph these moves, and it didn't take long for Hooker to adjust and return fire.

Burns, a 2011 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship gold medalist, shot for a takedown and got it, but Hooker proved his match on the ground. When they got back to the feet, Hooker dropped Burns, then put him on the mat a second time with a right hook to the body and a left to the jaw which ended the fight and handed Burns his first career stoppage loss.

After the bout, Hooker proclaimed he wanted a step up in competition next.

“Give me someone in the top 10,” Hooker said after his 16th career stoppage win. “Put some respect on my name. That’s four in a row. You’re getting these boys hurt, you’ve got to get someone on my level. Let’s go.”
