Another light heavyweight fight at UFC Hamburg is in jeopardy.
Sources confirmed to MMA Fighting’s Shaun Al-Shatti that Ilir Latifi has suffered an injury that will force him to withdraw from his fight with Glover Teixeira at the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany on July 22. ESPN was the first to report the news.
This is the second major change to the Hamburg event this week, following the news that Anthony Smith would replace Volkan Oezdemir in the main event opposite Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Officials will now have to seek a replacement for what was scheduled to be the co-headlining bout as well.
Latifi was looking to capitalize on a February submission win over Ovince Saint Preux at UFC on FOX 28. “The Sledgehammer” has won two straight bouts and five of his last six.
A one-time title challenger, Teixeira has alternated wins and losses in his last five fights, most recently defeating Misha Cirkunov by first-round TKO last December.
