“Cara de Sapato” needs a new opponent for UFC 227.
Brazilian middleweight Antonio Carlos Junior was slated to fight Derek Brunson at the Aug. 4 pay-per-view card in Los Angeles, Calif., but Brunson was forced out of the card with an injury. Combate first reported the news.
On his social media, Brunson described it as a “small injury, a little set back.”
Brunson (18-6) was looking to get back on track after a first-round loss to Ronaldo Souza in January, a defeat that snapped his winning streak with quick stoppages over Lyoto Machida and Daniel Kelly.
“Cara de Sapato” (10-2, 1 no-contest) is riding one of the longest winning streaks in the middleweight division today (5) including four submissions over Tim Boetsch, Jack Marshman, Eric Spicely and Leonardo Guimaraes.
UFC 227 will take place at the Staples Center and feature a pair of championship fights, with T.J. Dillashaw and Demetrious Johnson defending their titles in rematches with Cody Garbrandt and Henry Cejudo.
