The International Fight Week curse lives on.
Since 2014, the UFC has promoted multi-event weeks for International Fight Week, Unfortunately, also during that time at least one major fight has dropped off of one of the scheduled cards. In 2014, Chael Sonnen failed a drug test and was removed from a fight with Vitor Belfort (that was originally supposed to be against Wanderlei Silva before a whole host of issues interceded to prevent that fight). In 2015, Jose Aldo pulled out of his scheduled title defense against Conor McGregor for UFC 189. In 2016, McGregor was pulled out of a rematch with Nate Diaz after fake retiring and then Jon Jones failed a drug test to force him out of his scheduled rematch with Daniel Cormier. Last year, Amanda Nunes pulled out of her scheduled bout with Valentina Shevchenko for UFC 213. And now, Max Holloway has been forced off UFC 226 due to concussion like symptoms.
Holloway’s removal from his scheduled title defense against Brian Ortega is a major blow to one of the best cards of the year. Undefeated in MMA, and riding a streak of six consecutive finishes, Ortega appears to be the most interesting challenger for Holloway’s title. The two will likely be set to rematch each other once Holloway’s injury concerns have abated, but in the meantime, see how the MMA world reacted to the loss of the UFC 226 co-main event.

They say a lightning doesn’t strike twice on the same spot. But in these two fights the exactly same thing happened... Which fight you would like to see happening again? And don’t worry, I will install a lightning rod next time!! lol Dizem q um raio não cai duas vezes no mesmo lugar. Mas nessas duas lutas eu recebi basicamente o mesmo golpe... Qual dessas duas lutas vc gostaria de ver a revanche? Prometo q para a próxima luta eu instalo um para-raio... rsrs

Hope y’all enjoyed the holiday. Sucks that Max and Ortega was cancelled but that’s pretty much par for the course in MMA these days. Let’s just hope the rest of 226 holds up. Also, that Belal suggestion of Ortega vs. Showtime got me thinking about that fight and wow do I want to see that.
Thanks for reading and see y’all tomorrow.
