If you saw the top two fights of UFC on FOX 30, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that the winners took home Performance of the Night bonuses Saturday night.
Indeed, such was the case for Dustin Poirier and Jose Aldo after their respective victories over Eddie Alvarez and Jeremy Stephens.
Poirier scored a wild, second-round TKO over former UFC and Bellator lightweight champ Alvarez in the evening’s lightweight main event. He received a Performance of the Night award, which is his fourth $50,000 bonus in his past four victories.
Aldo, meanwhile, put on the sort of electrifying finish that marked his rise through the sport as the greatest featherweight in MMA history by rallying to finish Stephens in the first round of their bout. His Performance of the Night bonus marked the eighth time in his UFC and WEC stint that the longtime champion pocketed a bonus.
Meanwhile, Fight of the Night went to a worthy pair of warriors whose bout lived up to advance billing. John Makdessi and Ross Pearson threw down for 15 minutes before Makdessi earned a unanimous decision. For their efforts, they’ll each take home an additional $50,000. It was Pearson’s fourth career bonus and Makdessi’s first.
UFC on FOX 30 drew an announced crowd of 10,603 paying a gate of $1,302,050.57 at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta.
