At UFC 226, Daniel Cormier knocked out Stipe Miocic in the first round to claim the UFC heavyweight title. In the aftermath, former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar came into the octagon and confronted the new “Baddest Man on the Planet,” shoving Cormier before getting on the microphone and cutting a promo, setting up a massive title fight for his return to the UFC.
All of this was bad news for Miocic and he is not the only one displeased with the situation. UFC commentator Joe Rogan agrees that with what Miocic accomplished, he deserves a rematch with Cormier, something he opined on the latest edition of his Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show podcast.
“He should [get a rematch],” Rogan said. “People are thinking, the guy wins more UFC title defenses than anybody on the history of the sport and becomes the most accomplished heavyweight of all time. Think about what he’s done. Think about the fact that he knocks out Fabricio Werdum to win the title, he knocks out Alistair Overeem to defend the title, he knocks out Junior dos Santos, beats Francis when everybody is terrified of Francis. He became the most accomplished heavyweight of all time. Then he gets knocked out by a crazy, perfect punch by Daniel Cormier in a perfect strategy.”
The quick KO loss leaves Miocic, who previously had designs on a money fight with Lesnar out in the cold of the heavyweight title picture. Miocic defended the UFC heavyweight title more times than any other fighter in history and wants an immediate rematch, as long-reigning champions have often been given in the UFC. Unfortunately for Miocic, Cormier is set on retiring next March, and with Lesnar unable to compete until January, that leaves a very small window for Miocic to get a second crack at Cormier. Cormier himself has said he could potentially fight Miocic after Lesnar but recently said Lesnar would be his final bout, seemingly leaving Miocic up a creek without a paddle. That means, as Rogan elucidates, there is only one real way for Miocic to get a rematch before Cormier hangs up the gloves, Lesnar screwing up.
“The fight is Brock but the question is, can Brock pass tests?”
Lesnar has returned to the USADA testing pool and will only be eligible to fight should he not fail any tests until after January.

Special announcement from Buffer.
Meelah Claire Miocic we love and adore you. We never knew our hearts could feel this amount of love. You have shown us the meaning of life! We can’t wait to spend forever loving you!— Stipe Miocic (@stipemiocic) July 26, 2018
Thank you @brucebuffer for the announcement of our queen! pic.twitter.com/1tWgEyPENV
That’s a lot of awesome in one picture.
But seriously, I’m not sure there is a fighter more respected by other fighters than BJ. The quintessential “your favorite fighter’s favorite fighter.”
Ilir getting a little frostier.
You don’t answer me after my call outs, but you answer Corey? I respected you for wanting money fights as your last fights, but not easier fights. A champ don’t act like that. You don’t want to fight me? Because you know it’s going to be hard. Don’t go out like a coward champ. Pride lives with you after your career ends. I have won 5 out of my last 6 with 3 finishes in the first round, Corey has 3 wins in his last 6 with 1 finish in his 11 last fights. Corey is not a money fight, just an easier fight than me. @dc_mma Congrats to your WWE career. You have to respect guys that fight the best as champs. So @jonnybones, when you get back, let’s do it!
I’m not avoiding you can get it to. All of y’all. Tell me when and where bruh. I’ll come and whip ya— Daniel Cormier (@dc_mma) July 25, 2018
Curtis injured, Stipe is spending his time with the family, Ngannu already had two non-rival defeats in a row. I and @Thebeast_ufc can hold a good contender fight in Moscow.— Alexander Volkov (@AlexDragoVolkov) July 25, 2018
Black man in Moscow?!?! Fuck that. come to the USA— Derrick Lewis (@Thebeast_ufc) July 25, 2018
Dont be a racist. Russia is an international country!— Alexander Volkov (@AlexDragoVolkov) July 25, 2018
The last pretender @stylebender what’s up . You talk that loose lips stuff to @arielhelwani, talking about wanting to fight me. I accept Nov 3, UFC 230. I sent you a message a day ago, what are you hibernating. TKO via slam coming. You’ll be humble after this 1!— Derek Brunson (@DerekBrunson) July 26, 2018
