Pros react to Yoel Romero missing weight in back-to-back title fights

Yoel Romero missed weight for UFC 225.

For the first time in UFC history, a fighter has missed weight for back-to-back championship fights.

Middleweight contender Yoel Romero missed weight by .2 pounds Friday at UFC 225’s official weigh-ins, tipping the scales at 185.2 pounds for his scheduled title challenge against Robert Whittaker. The botched cut came just four months after Romero similarly missed weight for an interim title fight against Luke Rockhold at UFC 221, and just days after UFC president Dana White announced intentions to abandon the promotion’s morning weigh-ins in favor of the old — and largely unpopular — system of late-afternoon weigh-ins.

The fate of Whittaker vs. Romero 2 is still up in the air. In the meantime, check out reaction to Romero’s second consecutive weigh-in miss below.
