Antonina Shevchenko has a new dance partner for her appearance on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.
After losing originally scheduled opponent Silvana Gomez Juarez to an undisclosed injury, Shevchenko will now face flyweight Jaimelene Nievera on June 26 in Las Vegas for a shot at a UFC contract, sources told MMA Fighting’s Marc Raimondi.
TSN was the first to report the short-notice opponent change.
Shevchenko, an experienced Muay Thai fighter who is the sister of top UFC flyweight title contender Valentina Shevchenko, is undefeated in five professional MMA bouts. Most recently, she defeated Valerie Domergue by unanimous decision last December.
In March, it was reported that Shevchenko, 33, would compete on the second season of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, a show designed to give fighters a chance to earn a spot in the UFC.
Nievara (7-3) is currently on a three-fight win streak. The 33-year-old fights out of Dragon House MMA in San Francisco. Five of Nievara’s seven wins have come by way of knockout or submission and she has previously fought for Bellator.
