Robert Whittaker scored another decision victory over Yoel Romero in the main event of UFC 225 in Chicago, but it was a costly win.
“The Reaper”, who won a close split decision win in a five-round non-title bout Saturday night, fractured his right thumb early in the opening round, and his team released the X-ray on social media.
Whittaker (20-4) improved to 8-0 since moving up to the middleweight division in 2014. The Australian talent won the interim belt last July, when he beat Romero the first time, and was later promoted to undisputed champion. However, the belt wasn’t on the line at UFC 225 after Romero missed weight by 0.2 pounds.
