Roger Huerta signs long-term contract with Bellator

Roger Huerta is sticking around.

The veteran has signed a new multi-fight deal with Bellator, MMA Fighting has learned.

Huerta returned to Bellator last month to fight Benson Henderson on short notice in Budapest, Hungary. Prior to the fight, Huerta said he signed a one-fight deal in hopes of proving he belonged in the promotion with his performance against Henderson.

Despite losing via second-round submission, Bellator officials seem to believe “El Matador” belongs.

“I’m really happy to get an extended deal done and signed with Bellator,” Huerta said. “Looking forward to getting back in the mix at 155. I think there are some great match-ups for me. I mean this when I say it, you can expect some good fights out me this next go of it.

“I wasn’t pleased with my performance in Budapest. I froze. Take nothing away from Benson [Henderson] but now that’s out of the way, it’s time to get down to business.”

This marks Huerta’s second go-around with Bellator. He signed with the promotion in 2010 following a stint in the UFC but left later that year after going 1-2 inside the Bellator cage.

No word just yet on when the soon-to-be 35-year-old Huerta (24-10-1, 1 NC) will return to action.
