Derek Brunson will look to end the streak of Antonio Carlos Junior when they fight at UFC 227.
A middleweight bout between Brunson and Carlos Junior will take place at UFC 227 on Aug. 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The matchup was announced Wednesday on UFC Tonight.
Brunson recently called for a meeting with “Cara de Sapato” on Twitter:
When you were unranked you were calling me out . Now you’re ranked on a nice streak. Quit playing games and sign the contract . You told me before you’d whip my a**, here’s your opportunity! @caradesapatojr @Mickmaynard2 @danawhite @AliAbdelaziz00

Carlos Junior (10-2, 1 NC) currently holds the second-longest winning streak at 185 pounds with victories in his last five outings, trailing only division champion Robert Whittaker (8). The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 winner has finished three straight opponents by rear-naked choke submission, most recently downing veteran Tim Boetsch inside of a round at UFC on FOX 29.
Brunson (18-6) will be looking to rebound from first-round knockout loss to Ronaldo Souza, the second time he’s been finished by “Jacare”. He has won seven of his last 10 fights, with six of those wins coming by way of first-round KO.
UFC 227 is expected to be headlined by a bantamweight championship rematch between current titleholder T.J. Dillashaw and rival Cody Garbrandt.
