It was a battle of a former TUF: Brazil winner against a recent Contender Series grad.
And in this case, at least, the old way of fighting onto the UFC roster held sway.
Cezar Ferreira, the TUF: Brazil 1 winner, has turned into a real force in the UFC middleweight division, as he proved once again on Saturday night. The fighter nicknamed “Mutante” earned a technical submission win over Karl Roberson in the featured UFC 224 prelim bout in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Ferreira wasted little time getting Roberson to the mat. He patiently waited on the opening for a submission, and while Roberson fought it all he could, Ferreira eventually found the opening for the arm triangle. Roberson actually went out before the referee could call it off.
“He’s a very tough guy, he’s a kickboxing world champion but I thank my team for their guidance,” Ferreira said through an interpreter.
With his seventh career finish win, Ferreira improved to 13-6. He’s won two straight and five of six. Roberson (6-1) is now 2-1 in the UFC, including the Contender Series win which got him onto the UFC roster.
