Conor McGregor’s actions will not stop Michael Chiesa from fighting at UFC 223.
Chiesa was transported to the hospital Thursday afternoon after suffering multiple cuts as a result of McGregor’s melee inside of the Barclays Center. UFC president Dana White stated that Chiesa was cut “really bad” after McGregor and his team hurled objects at the UFC 223 fighter bus, breaking one window and damaging others in the process.
Video of McGregor shattering the window with a dolly can be seen here.
Fortunately, Chiesa’s injuries are not severe enough to prevent him from competing on Saturday night. The lightweight fighter has been released from the hospital and still intends to fight Anthony Pettis at UFC 223, MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani reported.
Chiesa suffered multiple cuts on his face but required no stitches, per Helwani.
UFC 223 takes place April 7 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Representatives from the New York Police Department told MMA Fighting on Thursday that McGregor is “wanted for questioning” in regards to the incident, however police have not issued a warrant for the UFC lightweight champion’s arrest.
“This is the most disgusting thing that has ever happened in the history of the company,” White told reporters (via video shot by MMA Junkie).
“What happened today was criminal, disgusting, despicable, makes me sick, and we as an organization need to make sure that this never happens again.”
