Tuesday, though, brought better news: Not only would “The Natural Born Killer” stay on the April 14 card in Glendale, Ariz., but the replacement welterweight fight is intriguing in its own right: Alex Oliveira has agreed to step in and fight Condit. MMA Fighting confirmed an initial report by Combate.
Oliveira (18-4-1, 2 NC) is coming off his epic brawl with Yancy Medeiros at UFC 218. The Brazilian nicknamed “Cowboy” lost in the third round, but the bout claimed Fight of the Night and was the runner-up for MMA Fighting’s 2017 Fight of the Year. Prior to that loss, Oliveira was 4-0 with a no-contest in his five previous appearances.
Condit (30-11) has dropped three straight fights. The former WEC welterweight and UFC interim welterweight champion’s last victory was a 2015 finish of Thiago Alves.
The duo have a combined 43 stoppage victories among their 48 career wins.
