UFC Atlantic City medical suspensions: Edson Barboza, nine others out indefinitely

UFC lightweight contender Edson Barboza highlighted a list of 10 fighters to be issued indefinite medical suspensions as a result of potential damage suffered at UFC Atlantic City. The New Jersey State Athletic Control Board released the event’s finalized medical suspension report on Monday.

Barboza suffered a devastating fifth-round TKO loss to Kevin Lee in the night’s main event. As a result of potential damage sustained in the contest, which ended via doctor’s stoppage, Barboza will be forced to seek doctor’s clearance on potential injuries to his head and facial bones before returning to active competition, per commission officials.

The nine other fighters who received similar indefinite medical suspensions were: Justin Willis (ribs, right hip/groin), David Branch (left leg), Brett Johns (neurological exam), Aljamain Sterling (left ankle/foot), Jim Miller (head, orbital bones), Ryan LaFlare (left knee, left elbow), Siyar Bahadurzada (right hand, right ribs), Luan Chagas (head, abdomen, neurological exam), and Patrick Cummins (head and abdomen).

UFC Atlantic City took place April 21 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The night’s main card aired live on FOX Sports 1.
