The UFC on FOX 29 Fight of the Night was a no-brainer.
Lightweight sluggers Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje were each rewarded with an extra $50,000 for their main event brawl at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Ariz., on Saturday, which Poirier won by fourth-round TKO. The bout was a back-and-forth affair that saw both men seemingly throwing strikes non-stop for the duration of their contest.
This is Poirier’s fifth Fight of the Night award and his seventh post-fight bonus overall. Since joining the UFC last July, Gaethje has collected that same award in all three of his Octagon appearances and he also earned a Performance of the Night bonus for his win over Michael Johnson.
Oliveira picked up his fourth fight night bonus with a second-round submission of former interim champion Carlos Condit in the evening’s co-main event, while Wieczorek scored his first by shocking Arjan Bhullar with a come-from-behind submission win via omoplata (only the second time that technique had finished a fight in UFC history) in the second period of their preliminary contest.
