Henry Cejudo thinks Demetrious Johnson beats T.J. Dillashaw ‘by a landslide’ at 125

Henry Cejudo believes he knows how a proposed superfight between UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and bantamweight counterpart T.J. Dillashaw would go down — provided the fight is contested at 125 pounds.

“I have Demetrious by a landslide, to be honest with you,” Cejudo said recently on The MMA Hour.

It’s not that Cejudo disrespects the skills of Dillashaw, the two-time bantamweight title holder and one of the sport’s top pound-for-pound fighters. It’s just that the talks for the superfight have Dillashaw — who has never fought professionally below 135 pounds — going down to flyweight to fight on DJ’s familiar turf, and Cejudo’s not sure how Dillashaw’s body will respond to the weight cut.

“I think Demetrious’ speed, he’s intelligent, nothing to take away from T.J.,” Cejudo said. “I’ve said it before, I think it’s just a weight issue. I think it’s T.J. getting down those extra 10 pounds and how he recovers the next day. I think that’s the biggest factor in that fight.”

If the bout was to be held at bantamweight, Cejudo believes that would change the fight’s calculations greatly. After all, Johnson’s last loss was in 2011 against another reigning bantamweight champ, at that time, Dominick Cruz.

“I’ve talked to a lot of MMA guys that have gone down in weight class who are like, ‘I know what you’re talking about here,’” Cejudo said. “Making that extra 10 pounds is a big difference. Now, T.J. at 135 is a different game for Demetrious.”

Cejudo earned a shot at Johnson’s title at UFC 197 and lost via first-round TKO. A Dillashaw victory over Johnson could impede Cejudo’s path at another title matchup, as it would clog up two divisions.

But Cejudo believes the attention such a fight would bring to his underrated division would be worth the risk.

“As a competitor, as someone in the weight class, I think it’s good,” Cejudo said.

“I think its cool that they do fight, but I feel like I already know the outcome.”
