‘Beast from the East’ storm forces Chris Fields off KSW 42 card

KSW

Chris Fields was unable to travel to his light heavyweight title eliminator bout at KSW 42 in Lodz against Marcin Wojcik due to the ‘Beast from the East’ storm, which has caused heavy snowfall in Ireland since Wednesday.

On Thursday, red alert weather warnings were issued in Irish provinces Leinster, Munster and county Galway. People have been urged to stay indoors as the Taoiseach (prime minister) warned of “serious, life-threatening conditions.”

The former Cage Warriors middleweight champion had boarded a flight to get to Poland on Thursday only for Dublin Airport to close and cancel all flights until Saturday morning.

KSW confirmed the Irishman’s inability to travel on Friday morning as the weigh-ins for the card got underway in Poland. Hatef Moeil (4-3) will step in to face Marcin Wojcik (10-5) in his place.

Fields released a video on his personal Facebook page on Friday morning. He hopes that Wojcik will make quick work of Moeil so he and Fields can reschedule their bout for April.

Ahead of the fight, Fields claimed that he KSW had guaranteed that he would fight for the title if he was victorious against Wojcik.

“That’s a guarantee, or at least that’s what I’ve been told,” Fields told MMA Fighting, before he was pulled from the card. “Honestly, I think they would prefer if I win this fight because they have only recently promoted my opponent in a title fight, which he lost.”
