Craig, the biggest betting underdog on the card, submitted Ankalaev with a Hail Mary triangle choke at 4:59 of the third round to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in a fight he was literally one second away from losing at UFC London. In doing so, the Scotsman broke the UFC’s record for latest stoppage in a three-round fight — a record that was subsequently matched by Leon Edward’s main-card victory over Peter Sobotta.
The wild win earned Craig a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus that amounted to an extra $50,000.
The card’s other ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus went to Alexander Volkov, the Russian heavyweight who stopped former UFC champion Fabricio Werdum via fourth-round knockout in the main event of UFC London.
UFC London’s final bonus, ‘Fight of the Night,’ was awarded to light heavyweight contenders Jan Blachowicz and Jimi Manuwa, whose exciting co-main event rematch ended with Blachowicz avenging his prior defeat to Manuwa by earning a unanimous decision win.
UFC London took place March 17 at the O2 Arena in London, England. The event streamed live on UFC Fight Pass.
