Angela “Unstoppable” Lee will look to get back to her winning ways this spring.
ONE officials announced on a media call Wednesday that its 21-year-old strawweight champion will defend her title against Mei Yamaguchi (17-10-1) at the appropriately titled ONE Championship: Unstoppable Dreams card on May 18 in Singapore.
The bout was previously reported by The Strait Times.
This will be a rematch of their five-round back-and-forth grappling battle from May 2016 that was widely hailed as one of that year’s best bouts. That match ended with Lee winning a unanimous decision to claim the vacant ONE strawweight title.
Lee and Yamaguchi were originally supposed to fight again last November, but Lee was forced to withdraw after being involved in a frightening car accident that fortunately left her with only minor injuries.
Since winning the 115-pound title, Lee has successfully defended it twice, most recently with a second-round submission win over Istela Nunes at ONE Championship: Dynasty of Heroes last May. She is 8-0 as a professional.
Yamaguchi, 35, has won two straight, submitting Jenny Huang in June and outpointing Gina Iniong in November to secure her rematch with Lee.
