UFC seriously exploring possibility of event in Liverpool later this year

Is the UFC finally headed to “The Pool”?

According to multiple sources, the promotion is currently seriously exploring the possibility of holding an event in Liverpool, England later this year. While plans have yet to be finalized at this time, the belief is the UFC is close to finalizing its plans.

One scenario discussed is moving the planned May 27 show in Dublin, Ireland, which has not been officially announced by the UFC but reported by MMAFighting.com, to Liverpool, per sources.

The UFC has never held an event in Liverpool. The general consensus is it would do incredibly well, especially with the emergence of local star Darren Till leading the way. European-based Cage Warriors has had a lot of success holding events at Liverpool’s Echo Arena, with the likes of Paddy Pimblett, Molly McCann and Chris Fishgold becoming lucrative local draws.

At the moment, the undefeated Till, a proud “Scouser,” doesn’t have his next fight lined up, but he would be the natural choice to main event the UFC’s inaugural card in Liverpool. Ever since his win over Donald Cerrone in October, Till has been campaigning hard for an event in his hometown.

The UFC has held 17 events in England. They’ll make it 18 on Saturday with a card headlined by Fabricio Werdum vs. Alexander Volkov. An event in Liverpool would mark the promotion’s 22nd in the United Kingdom.
