Luke Rockhold is fighting for the UFC’s interim middleweight title on Saturday night in Perth, but he thinks a move to light heavyweight is “imminent.”
Speaking after his open workout, Rockhold claimed that his cut to middleweight isn’t getting any easier and expects to move to 205 lbs now that his AKA teammate, UFC light heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier, is moving up to heavyweight to fight Stipe Miocic.
“It never gets any easier. I’m getting older and my bones are getting thicker and it gets harder to get down to this weight,” said Rockhold following his open workout ahead of UFC 221.
“Having this open workout on a Friday, it’s tough. But I feel good. I’ve got a great team around me. Lockhart and Leith have got nutrition down to a science. I’m ahead of schedule and I’ll be fine, but 205 is imminent.
“DC is moving up to heavyweight. He’s not coming back, so I’ll be up there soon.”
“Yes,” Rockhold again confirmed his intent to move to light heavyweight when asked. “I’ve said that many times and like I said, it’s imminent – I’ll be up there soon.”
