James Gallagher is getting another chance to close out his first Bellator event.
On Thursday, officials announced that “The Strabanimal” will fight the undefeated Adam Borics in the featherweight main event of Bellator 196 at BOK Hall in Budapest, Hungary. The bout was first reported by ESPN.
This is actually the second time that the 21-year-old Gallagher (7-0) has been booked to headline a Bellator show. Gallagher was supposed to headline an event opposite Jeremiah Labiano last November in his native Ireland, but he was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury. He has won all four of his Bellator outings, with his last two ending via first-round submission.
Borics made a successful Bellator debut last April, defeating Anthony Taylor by first-round rear-naked choke submission. Since turning pro in 2015, the Budapest native has won all six of his fights.
In the co-main event, Dutch kickboxer Denise Kielholtz will compete in her third MMA bout when she takes on Lena Ovchynnikova at 125 pounds. Kielholtz is the Bellator Kickboxing women’s flyweight champion and she won her Bellator MMA debut against Jessica Middleton by first-round submission last November to improve to 1-1 as a mixed martial artist.
Ovchynnikova (12-5, 1 NC) has put together a 2-2 record with one no-contest in the Bellator cage, most recently losing to Alejandra Lara by third-round submission.
