UFC Belem live blog: Valentina Shevchenko vs. Priscila Cachoeira

This is the UFC Belem live blog for Valentina Shevchenko vs. Priscila Cachoeira, a women’s flyweight bout at Saturday night’s UFC event at the Mangueirinho Arena in Belem, Brazil.

Shevchenko, a one-time bantamweight title contender, will make her debut at 125 pounds when she faces Cachoeira, a UFC newcomer with an 8-0 professional record.

Round 1: Referee Mario Yamasaki overseeing this fight. Shevchenko catches Cachoeira with a straight punch early, then rocks her with a left hand. She’s connecting with combinations and backing Cachoeira up. The Brazilian tries to answer back and gets taken down to the mat. Body shots from top position by Shevchenko. Cachoeira’s back is against the cage. Shevchenko with more shots to the body, then elbows from top position. She’s slicing Cachoeira up. Blood all over the mat as Shevchenko continues to land punches and elbows from inside Cachoeira’s guard. Shevchenko taking her time, landing elbows. Cachoeira offering nothing from bottom position, just trying to tie Shevchenko up. Shots to the body from Shevchenko set up head strikes. Just five minutes of dominance from Shevchenko.

Round 2: Shevchenko scores with a counter-punch, then immediately trips Cachoeira down. Shevchenko into side control. She’s working to step over and trap Cachoeira’s left arm. Crucifix position and Shevchenko is dropping unanswered strike after unanswered strike. Keylock attempt by Shevchenko, but Cachoeira defends. More unanswered shots from Shevchenko, she’s in complete control with half a round to go. Cachoeira tries to turn over, but Shevchenko keeps her down in side control. Cachoeira blocks Shevchenko’s attempt to pass into mount. Elbows from side control by Shevchenko. Shevchenko gets mount and she’s unloading on Cachoeira now. Cachoeira turns over and she’s being annihilated with dozens of punches. Rear-naked choke by Shevchenko and Cachoeira is done.
