UFC on FOX 28 live blog: Mike Perry vs. Max Griffin

This is the UFC on FOX 28 live blog for Mike Perry vs. Max Griffin, a welterweight bout at Saturday night’s UFC event at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla.

Perry, who is 4-2 in the UFC with all of his wins coming by way of knockout, takes on Griffin, who is 3-2 in his last five fights, on the evening’s main card.

Round 1: Perry immediately takes the center of the cage and he’s walking Griffin down. Howeer, it’s Griffin who lands with some straight punches early, opening up a cut on the right side of Perry’s forehead. “Platinum” head hunting early. He gets a body lock and pushes Griffin against the fence, but Griffin has the underhook. Griffin shrugs Perry off. Jab by Perry backs Griffin up. The Orlando native is having a difficult time getting in on Griffin without taking damage. Kicks to the body land for Griffin. He’s employing a lot of lateral and head movement. Perry fires a right uppercut that misses. Kick to the body by Perry to the right side of Griffin, then the left. Griffin with the body punch. Perry lunges in for a kick and eats a 1-2 from Griffin. Perry misses on a high kick and Griffin takes him down. Perry quickly back up and he counters with a takedown of his own. Griffin holding onto Perry’s wrists as he defends against back control. Perry gets into mount right at the buzzer.

Round 2: Griffin flurries early and hurts Perry with a right hand over the top. Perry recovers, but gets popped with a jab right down the middle. Low kick by Griffin. He looks content to work the body and Perry’s lead leg. Perry defends a Griffin takedown, but is momentarily tripped up as Griffin snags his leg. He throws a flying knee that partially connects. Both men exchange wild hooks. High kick blocked by Perry. 1-2 connects for Griffin. That jab is giving Perry problems. Perry connects with a couple of jabs, but gets dropped by a right over the top and a left hook. Griffin dives down to finish, but Perry ties him up and recovers. They’re back on the feet. Griffin backs a bloody Perry up against the fence and finishes with a flurry.

Round 3: Perry hits a big counter to start Round 3 and he presses forward. They grapple against the cage and Perry almost gets back control, but Griffin just dumps him off. The pace slows back down and it looks like Griffin has recovered. He goes back to working Perry’s lead leg with kicks. Outside leg kick by Perry. Right hand stops Perry from advancing. Perry lunges in and lands a right over the top. A big right hook follows. Griffin continues to show good movement, but his output has slowed noticeably. Perry throws his hands up, trying to goad Griffin into engaging. Perry getting caught with jabs and straight punches when he comes in. High kick for Perry partially connects. He follows with an uppercut. More head hunting by Perry. Griffin goes to tie him up, Perry almost gets a takedown, but Griffin scrambles up and over him. Perry drags Griffin down for a late takedown.
