Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir is now a promoter for Russian MMA promotion, ACB.
ACB announced Mir’s new role via press release on Monday afternoon.
Last year, the promotion expanded into a host of new regions including the US, Canada, Brazil, Australia and Germany. In the press release, Mir — who has worked as color commentator for ACB since 2016 — claimed he approached the promotion himself in an effort to help its transition into new markets.
“I actually approached them,” said Mir, according to ACB press release.
“I know they are keen to break into the American market and I’m down for doing less travel so I asked if they were interested in coming to America, then I could be a contact in the US that could promote the events for them which they were very open to.”
As well as US shows, the release indicates that Mir will also be promoting shows for ACB in the UK and Australia. Mir will co-promote events alongside broadcast partner Bryan Lacey and UK promoter, Carl Prince.
“I will be co-promoting them with Carl Prince and my ACB broadcast partner Bryan Lacey. Carl has promoted over 70 events across the UK and has matched all the UK ACB cards so far,” said Mir.
The date of Mir’s first event at the helm of the promotion has been scheduled and will be announced “very soon” on ACB’s social media platforms.
