Don’t write off Donald Cerrone just yet.

The wildly popular “Cowboy” took a three-fight losing streak into his high-stakes UFC Austin main event against Yancy Medeiros on Sunday night.

Medeiros was game for a throwdown, and the duo delivered a thrilling brawl.

But a wicked right hand by Cerrone in the opening round’s waning seconds opened the floodgates. Cerrone didn’t let up until referee Herb Dean called off the welterweight bout at the 4:58 mark.

The victory was the 20th career UFC win for Cerrone (33-10, 1 NC), which ties him with Georges St-Pierre and Michael Bisping for the most in company history.

“You know, they call me, I say ‘where are we going,’ and that’s all I need to know,” Cerrone said.

The fight was a tornado of standup action, with both fighters giving as good as they got it. Medeiros, just 10 weeks removed from his Fight of the Year-contending brawl against Alex Oliveira, blasted Cerrone with a right to the face that snapped his head back, and seemed to have things going in his favor.

But Cerrone figured out his range midway through the round, and began to regularly land. A ruthless right hand to the jaw caused Medeiros’ legs to give out, as he landed face first.

Cerrone said he wasn’t thinking about the clock as he swarmed and finished it with two ticks left before the horn.

“Yeah I was like, ‘let’s go,’” Cerrone said. “I didn’t even know there was 10 seconds left either, just going for the finish.”

Medeiros dropped to 15-5 as he had a three-fight win streak snapped.
