In a heavyweight division top-heavy on old-timers and light on young up-and-comers, Tai Tuivasa is starting to stand out.
The 24-year-old from St. Mary’s, Australia nicknamed “Bam Bam” is now 2-0 in the UFC after putting on a brutally efficient show on Saturday night.
Tuivasa pummeled France’s Cyril Asker for the better part of two minutes before their their UFC 221 battle was waved off. The time of the TKO was 2:18 in Perth, Australia.
“I just want to fight, keep getting paid, baby,” Tuivasa said.
Tuivasa wasted little time starting the onslaught, landing with heavy hands and bruising elbows to the head. Credit Asker’s toughness, but he might have been too tough for his own good, as he absorbed a couple dozen of these blows and stayed standing.
Asker faceplanted after Tuivasa shoved him, and the bout was halted.
Tuivasa is now 7-0 with seven first-round knockouts. Asker is 9-4 and dropped two of his past three.
