Ansaroff announced to the world she’s a force to be reckoned in the strawweight division with the biggest victory of her career on Saturday night, defeating longtime contender Claudia Gadelha via unanimous decision at UFC 231. The judges’ scores were 29-28 across the board at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena.
The crafty Gadelha had her strongest round in the first, as she got Ansaroff to the mat and displayed some impressive work.
But Ansaroff was never close to being finished, and she turned the fight in her favor once things got back to the feet. Ansaroff flustered Gadelha throughout the fight with a fine mix of jabs and kicks thrown in high volume.
That output more than negated another Gadelha takedown in the second, and the speed with which Ansaroff threw wore Gadelha down and kept her from getting anything untracked in the final round.
Ansaroff improved to 10-5 with the victory. She’s won four in a row, with all four bouts going the distance. Gadelha (16-4) has dropped two of her past three.
